DFE Abstract
Polina Larina a native of Uzbekistan and a senior German and Communication double major with minors in Broadcast Journalism and Dance, spent 2 winter months interning with Ashoka U in Arlington, VA. A subdivision of Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs, Ashoka U focuses on empowering universities to make social entrepreneurship into a campus-wide culture. Under the supervision and guidance of Beeta Ansari, Lina got to stretch herself in adaptability, independence and perseverance, explore her interest in higher education and work along a team spearheading innovation in that area. Her primary project was to assist in the organization of Exchange 2014, the largest international convening for social entrepreneurship in higher education. Alongside, Lina assisted in editing and writing of external communication materials, like blog articles, newsletters, and press releases. Dr. Peter Hackbert, EPG Director, acted as her primary faculty sponsor, while Dr. Billy Wooten served as her secondary sponsor.
