DFE Abstract
In summer 2015, Ngoc-Anh did an eight-week internship at the Backside Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky. At the BLC, Ngoc-Anh had an opportunity to delve into the work of a nonprofit organization that serves the community of about 1000 equine workers at Churchill Downs. With her experiences of being an Education Studies major and specializing in social media after the summer with EPG, she was entrusted to tackle several challenging tasks such as redesigning the organization's website, overseeing the organization's presence on Facebook, organizing fundraising as well as socializing events, designing the summer curriculum for the children of the equine workers, etc. Her primary supervisor was Dr. Bobby Starnes, and her secondary supervisor was Dr. Penelope Wong. Her internship was designed to help her gain deeper understandings of the challenges faced by nonprofit organizations as well as the lives of the immigrant workers in the U.S. During her presentation, Ngoc-Anh will discuss her personal growth related to the EPG abilities, as well as her perspectives on the issue of immigrants in the U.S. and her future projects
