DFE Abstract

Guillermo Cruz spent nine weeks during the summer of 2019 as a student Software Developer for Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. Under The direction of Dr. Scott Heggen, Guillermo worked alongside a diverse team of student software developers to develop software solutions for Berea College. The student software development team designed implementable solutions, performed security standard reviews, and learned how to maintain and upgrade existing systems. The experience was a great opportunity to develop an understanding of how to work directly with a consumer to effectively create software that meets the needs of the end user. His summer experience shed light on the importance of utilizing his EPG abilities, why his experience qualifies as an entrepreneurial leadership internship, and how his Berea experience thus far has helped pave the road to a successful future. Guillermo is a Mathematics and Computer Science double major. Guillermo’s primary advisor was Dr. Jan Pierce and his secondary advisor was Dr. Peter Hackbert.
