DFE Abstract

During the summer of 2019, Gabriella Epley spent 8 weeks as an intern at Restorative Justice Louisville (RJL) in Louisville, KY. RJL is a non-profit organization that works to maintain relationships within communities and end crime in the Louisville-metro area by facilitating face-to-face meetings between victims and offenders. The firm works primarily with convicted youth and young adults in order to divert them from the criminal justice system, allow them to share their stories, and repair harms created by their actions. As an intern, Gabriella managed cases, produced communication materials, and facilitated meetings between victims and offenders. She was also given the opportunity to visit detention centers and shadow judges in the juvenile court system. Gabriella’s primary internship advisor was Dr. Daniel Huck.
