DFE Abstract

Faith Jones interned at Kentucky Refugee Ministries as a resettlement intern for ten weeks in Lexington, Kentucky. As a resettlement Intern, she helped refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraqi, Bhutan/Nepal, to integrate into America and facilitated refugees to be self-sufficient. The key responsibilities were to assist with social services, childcare options, medical appointments, and work as a member of the pre-arrival team. Faith assisted refugees to find employment by developing a resume and facilitating the application process. Promoted and assisted for the Rockin’ Round the World fundraiser and World Refugee Day. Faith researched some the of social and economic issues refugees face in America. She developed her understanding about grant writing for non-profit organization by attending a workshop. Her primary advisor Meta Mendel-Reyes and Secondary Peter Hackbert was there for support. Through this experience she has developed social work skills.
