DFE Abstract

Jose Zapata Meza spent 10 weeks in the summer of 2019 as a civil engineering intern at LDA Engineering in Alcoa, Tennessee. LDA Engineering provides services to public and private clients throughout Tennessee to address their infrastructure related challenges. Jose worked under the supervision of Jim Albert, Vice President and Geomatics Manager, to continue work on ongoing CAD/ GIS projects. Along with these projects, Jose learned some of the skills that civil engineers do regularly such as surveying sites, monitoring landfill gas and well, and collecting data from sites that are visited. As a physics major, Jose gained valuable experience into a field of engineering that he might continue to pursue in the future. Jose’s primary advisor was Dr. Martin Veillette, with Dr. Peter Hackbert as his secondary advisor.
