DFE Abstract
Kyle spent twelve weeks in the summer of 2015 as an intern at City of Kingsport, Community Services Department in Kingsport, Tennessee. City of Kingsport, Community Services Department oversees parks and recreation, cultural arts, the senior center, the library and the state of Tennessee's largest city-owned park, Bays Mountain. The objective of the Community Services Department is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Kingsport and surrounding areas via recreation, educational nature programs, health and wellness opportunities, and various other engagements. As a Health and Human Performance major, Kyle gained experience ensuring the development, maintenance, execution, and evaluation of a long-term vision and strategic plan including goals, measures and targets for people development and program development. This internship was designed with the support of the Entrepreneurship for the Public Good program, lead by Dr. Peter Hackbert, to aid in active learning outside of the classroom and into the career world. Kyle’s primary supervisor was Dr. Peter Hackbert and Dr. A.J. Mortara was his secondary supervisor. During Kyle’s presentation, he will share his learning and growth experience related to the EPG abilities that he acquired at City of Kingsport, Community Services Department.
