DFE Abstract
Tachu spent 12 weeks interning as an operations engineer at Google’s datacenters in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The data centers house the network and server infrastructure that process Google’s internet search and other Google services, for example, Google drive and Gmail. The data centers also provide storage, high performance computing, on demand customized enterprise services, web hosting, social media services, and video streaming services. During his time there, he was exposed to state of the art data center network and storage technologies and also Google’s unique infrastructure. Although the work was challenging, it was such a great experience because working at the data centers that power the world’s biggest search engine gave him firsthand experience. As an intern at Google, Tachu also had the opportunity to engage in community volunteering work and recreational activities that gave him a work life balance. Tachu, a Cameroonian, is a senior, majoring in Computer and Information Science with a minor in Child and Family Studies. His primary sponsor was Dr. Scott Heggen and EPG Director, Dr. Peter Hackbert, served as his secondary sponsor. During Emmanuel’s presentation, he will share his learning and growth experience related to the EPG abilities that he acquired at Google Inc.
