DFE Abstract
Azis Toktobaev spent 13 weeks in New York City interning with a human rights group and activist organization and an Immigrant Community Law Center. As an intern, Azis was able to take part in organizing a series of activism events such as a large scale awareness event, a social celebration, a global digital advertising campaign, spoke at a Teen VOGUE Summit and even appeared in a magazine spread. As a law center intern/volunteer, Azis worked on 8 different asylum cases, learning the entire process of the asylum application and legal work behind immigration activism in general. Under the supervision of prominent immigration activists, Azis gained new skills in activism, expanded his horizons of knowledge, developed a pool of priceless connections and found his Chosen Family. Azis’ Primary Supervisor was Dr. Kennaria Brown and Dr. Peter Hackbert was his Secondary Advisor.
